The VNA of Boston recently teamed up with Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston to help build a stronger community. A group of VNA of Boston volunteers spent the day working on a two family farmhouse on Navarre Street in Roslindale, soon to be occupied by deserving families.
“This volunteer project is especially meaningful to our organization,” Rey Spadoni, VNA of Boston President & CEO stated. “The VNA of Boston has been keeping the residents of Greater Boston safe, healthy, and at home for 125 years; our mission is very similar to that of Habitat for Humanity. Our team truly enjoyed working on the Habitat project and was excited by the opportunity to give back to the community.”
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money, land, and materials, Habitat Greater Boston builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses. Families are selected based on their level of need, willingness to work, acceptance of responsibilities and ability to repay a mortgage. Families must complete at least 300 hours of sweat equity and an additional 100 hours of homeowner education classes. Qualified families purchase Habitat homes with zero-interest mortgages, enabling them to own their home.
