Heroes in Health Care Gala

Each year we take a moment to stop and recognize individuals who have played a profound and sustained leadership role in shaping our community and whose actions support the VNA of Boston's mission and vision of equal access to exceptional health care services for all. We celebrate these Heroes at our signature fundraising event which raises critical support for our Maternal Child Health and Free Care programs.

Celebrating 125 Years!

Since its foundation in 1886, the VNA of Boston has been an integral part of Greater Boston’s rich history. To commemorate our 125th anniversary we have been exhibiting a traveling display at a number of sites located in the hearts of the communities we serve. We are grateful to all the hospitals, universities, assisted living facilities, libraries, community centers and government buildings that have graciously invited us to become a part of their community.

As we traveled the city, we have been humbled and inspired by the stories we have heard. It seems as if a visiting nurse has touched the lives of everyone in our community.

State House Reception

Senator Sal DiDomenico and Representative Gene O’Flaherty co-hosted our event at the State House and spoke of the instrumental role visiting nurses will have in our changing health care system.

State Senator John Keenan, State Representative Bruce Ayers and State Representative Tackey Chan joined us at our reception at Atria Marina Place Assisted Living and after presenting the agency with a House of Representatives congratulatory citation, recounted personal stories of how visiting nurses have touched their lives.

Codman Square Library Reception

Boston City Councilor Charles Yancey attended our Codman Square Library reception and told the crowd how he personally benefited from visiting nurse services during his battle with leukemia.

The traveling display includes a timeline illustrating the VNA of Boston’s compelling history and how our nurses provided health care services during some of the most difficult times the community has ever faced. It shows how our nurses were on the front lines during the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918, the care given to veterans returning home from war, the education provided to families on proper nutrition during the Great Depression and how our nurses were vital caregivers during public health crises such as polio epidemics and the emergence of HIV/AIDS.

The display also shows how the VNA of Boston is relevant today and how our current services and programs are aimed at keeping people of all ages healthy and at home. We are proud to have reached this momentous milestone and hope you will be able to join us at one of the remaining display locations and help us celebrate 125 years of caring for our community!
